Which 2010 Diesel tow rig?

Nice rig DV! There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 6.7 other than the Government mandated crap that is on them (I.E. emissions regulation stuff) If it were not for that the 6.7 would be a fire breather!

Yeah, my buddy's 12 valve would get close to 24 empty on the highway.
I had an 03 with the HO (common rail, no cat) that could get 21 and change lightly loaded, and 12 towing the 5th wheel.
The 06 I have now might do 18 on the freeway, and gets 10 towing a 40' 5th wheel though curvy mountains.
Every time they change, they increase power, meet tighter emissions, and get less per gallon.
They do seem to do better once broken in, though. Also the DPF and EGR can sorta fall off...

I have a 3.73 axle ratio and the six speed auto trans.
My 2007 GMC Duramax got 8 mpg towing this trailer, and my 2005 GMC Duramax got 9 mpg towing this trailer. Fuel mileage is about what I expect for this size of trailer, and it may improve by a half mpg or so as it breaks in.
So far I've owned a '98 Dodge diesel, a 2002 Dodge diesel, a 2005 and a 2007 GMC diesel, and this 2010 Dodge diesel. This truck pulls the strongest, and really feels like it can work hard all day long better than any of the others. My second favorite was the '98 Dodge 24 valve 5.9.

That new double overdrive 6 speed auto is nice. Decent firm shifts, and it turns lower RPM on the freeway with 4.10's than the manual does with 3.73's.
With the 3.73's and auto, it should be idling along when you run 6th on the freeway.

Hopefully Ram can start using this new ZF 6speed tranny!

Actually the 68RFE is an excellent and very stout transmissioin as it is. If you opt for a Ram 3500, 4500, or 5500 cab and chassis you would get an Aisin auto equipped with power take off provision, which is also a really strong gear box.
Before the downturn, Dodge was looking at a double clutch automatic, which would have been reallly sweet...

Actually for 2010 the Aisin tranny has been discontinued and tho the 68 does work great Chrysler is talking about a new tranny for a while now with better gear spacing and better shifting technique. Both of these with better computer programming is what the ZF offers.
