Heck, when I was young, I worked for a guy that plowed with a WWII jeep. 4 banger and all. Very heavy blade too. WIth chains, it was pretty unstoppable, but he didn't wait until the snow stopped either. He was out there during the snow fall and never let the snow get more than 6 inches deep. That may mean he plowed 2 or 3 times in a storm, but his customers were happy, and he made a few extra bucks.

I still would not put a plow setup on my truck though. I have way too much invested in it to trash it. Plowing is hard on the equipment. No way around it.

This winter we had a good 12"-15" storm and then it turned to rain. I had a f350, dual wheels, flat bed with weight block, new tires, and a 10 cylinder. It sucked plowing lots and driveways, just plain old sucked. Half way through my route I went back to the shop and got the backhoe to finish. The problem with the truck was the snow was so wet it would not clear out from in front of the plow.

I used an old 50's era jeep with a 4 banger and never had a problem, but it was a purose built unit, and I always had to rebuild the front end every season. It is hard on your equipment, and the amount of money you make is never equal to what you spend. If you are looking for convenience, OK. But I can pay some other guy a whole lot of times to make up for what I pay out to buy the equipment in the first place.

ford makes the only truck durable enough for a plow. Fisher makes the best plow I think

May not be the solution for you but it works for me. I run a small plowing business and am an ironworker the rest of the year and drive all over for work. Buy a little car to commute with back and forth. I have a little saturn get about 32-35. When it comes time to use the truck for pulling plowing or hauing the quads i use the superduty. I have 1ton ford diesel, I wouldn't want to commute in it but it sure is nice plowing with it.

I do both residental and commercial, But only have one truck. I think it is fine doing driveways with it. It is a supercab with an 8ft box. I do agree with you having problems trying to push that much snow at once. I get one time calls after big storms 12'' plus I usually use the skid steer. Not saying it can't be done just my .02
