Default Dodge 2500 and tires

i need to replace my tires. what in the largest tire i can mount on a stock 17" rim. the truck is a 4x4 diesel and has no lift, other then factory. i do drive often on dirt roads and heavy rain. my mainreason is to give the truck a manly look.

You can usually go up one sidewall size and sometimes two without a lift or cranking the bars. Not as familiar with the clearance on the Dodge but I always up tire size from the stock 245's to 265's on all the GMC's I've had. I tried 285's once and they would just barely rub the inside plastic of the front fender well if you turned to full lock.

Your best internet answer would be to find a good Dodge truck forum.

You may get a bit of rub with 315's and stock lift/offset.

I have 285's (32" actual) on my dodge 2500 with plenty of room to spare. I know a guy that has 305's that just fit without rubbing. (stock suspension)

You can easily fit a 33" tire with no problems at all.

You don't have T-bars on a 2500, so there is nothing you can crank. They do make leveling kits though depending on your year that will raise the front up 1 1/2 - 2"s and than you can fit a 35" tire. Keep in mind though that even with a leveling kit, a 35" tire is going to fill those wheel wells. I personally would install an actual lift if I was going to go above a 33" tire.

If your truck is a 2003 or newer, the Dealer can reprogram your computer with the new tire size so your speedo will be correct again. Some tire sizes are preloaded so it just takes the Dealer a second. If the size isn't normal, you will need to call the tire manufacturer and get the "RPMs" (Rotation Per Mile). This is a 3 digit code and the manufacturer will give it to you with no problem.
