A Honda Rancher or a Suzuki Eiger are both extremely reliable and functional work and play quads. Does he need 2x4 or 4x4? Does he want the ES?

If he wants something that can pull have him look into an Arctic Cat.The 300 has high, low and super low.If he wants something a little bigger there is the 400 and he can get that with irs or a solid rear axle. There a very few machines that can out pull a Cat.Cats also have a higher rack capacity.Get your friend out to the different dealers to test ride, that will be the only way to truely decide which is best for him.

If he was considering a golf cart, I think ANY atv can out-pull one of those. But I'd seriously consider the Arctic Cat. Check out the specs and remember that the 300 has a super low range on the tranny. My 250 is an unbelievable pulling machine. If my tires start spinning, I just load up the racks for more weight.

The 450s is probably the best suited Utility ATV out there, gobs of low end torque, long trouble free track record, stable and does exactly what is required of it.
