Default 2003 Recon ES problems...

Has anyone had a problem with an ES that would make the atv get stuck in 2nd or 3rd with the light flashing for 1st while riding. If I come to a complete stop, it still does this nd wont let me shift up or down. I have to turn it off and then turn back on and then it will let me shift down to neutral to start again...Any suggestions???

This is a perfect example of why I buy foot shifts. Have you tried to do a search? Try searching back a few months.

my wife has a 350es with no shift problems, a friend and his wife had 450 es , he had problems she did not.
one of the local guys said that most of the problems with the shift is dirt. he went to a poker run in the spring with about 500 other bike and they cut up the trail quite a bit. he said that the bikes with the problems were the bikes that were hauling other bikes out of the holes. they get dirt on the es buttons and then they stick. this probably is not all of the problems but it is a good start to look at.

forth try for reply
try spraying the shift switch's with electric cleaner or wd 40. there might be a piece of sand stuck between switch and case.

a friend told me he had trouble shifting his quad but his wife didnt , his problem was he shifted too fast and the shift system would half shift. dirt and grease water can slow the solonoid that shifts . do you feel comfortable with taking the shift button apart and spraying it with electric cleaner. i have never seen one apart.

Never had any of these problems with my foot!!! People buy the ES because they don't want to learn to shift, but if a 4 year old kid can learn to shift.....................

great deal and a great machine, i dont think the shifting is a big issue, just needs some attention.
