You were talking about the chain inside the tranny.I have replaced them from being stretched but not from breaking. And by the way as most of the folks from the POLARIS forum know I do know my stuff about these machines.

By final drive (coming form an automotive standpoint) that means to me the differentials and axels (which would include the front). The fronts gear cases have no chain. I was not aware until now that the SP500's rear gearcase was intrigrated into the tranny. So yes, the final drive for the REAR is internaly chain driven. But that is not the case for the 600 and 700. And if you want to include the tanny as the final drive then the 600 and 700 are also chain driven #14 and #55. Just some FYI. I have heard of the chains stretching over a long period of time. But never heard of one break. And if they are that bad, then why would almost every car manufacturer have a chain drive transaxel for their vehicals? Chain drives are very strong. Yes, the chain will stretch over time (a long time) but is very tough. And I DON'T own a SP500, I have a scrambler. A totally different machine!!!!

Rhino660 really though, why did you even bring that point up? Now I have never seen or drove the AC 650, but I do know that the SP500 is a very strong and proven atv. May I also add, it is most likely the only reason AC or any other atv company has knowhow to make there 500cc and up utility atvs. I mean were did they get that trans, floorboards, irs, ebs, disc brakes,quartz-halogen headlights, and others? One word Polaris.

WOW, sounds like you are the sensative one. I could not find the parts diagram for the rear gearcase for the SP500, thats why I did not post a link. I was not aware until now that it was different than the 600 and 700. As I stated earlier. You learn something everyday. I never said you were bashing Polaris, I never said you were bashing my machine, I never said you were talking about my mom. I sinply asked you to show me the chain. Refer back to my previous statement, I was not aware that the trans and final drive (rear) were combined as 1. I thought that they were the same as the 600 and 700 (seperate unit). The chain breaking is a rare occurance. How many instances have you seen of this. I have never once came across a thread in the Polaris forum with someone breaking their chain. Must not a big problem. I would be more concerned about the axles of the AC. I have read MANY posts about the axels breaking on AC machines. HOPEFULLY AC had made them stronger to handle the power of the 650 motor and the suspension of the AC650

i havent noticed them breaking any more or less than any others but ill look for it. in my experience an axle break is usually the result of 27/28" mudders
That seemed to be the problem in the cases that I heard about. They were running bigger mud tires. It seemed to be that the axels would sheer at the splines. A weak design that I think (or hope) AC has addressed (especially for the 650)

RhinoOffRoad

I will let you have everything you have said expect one thing. When you were talking about what I said about the trans, floorboards...ect. You started talking about how Polaris wasn't first with that stuff. I never said they were, what I said was they used Polaris's Sportsman concept. Also on the IRS, the KingQuad was dead and gone when the 500Sp came out. Also do you think that thing would have a locker if Polaris had not came out with true 4x4? You must admit that the 500Sp in 1996 really did change the face of a ATV. I read the "First Ride" of the 600 Twin in the early part of 03, and they spoke of this. Also RhinoOffRoad I in no way wanted to start a fight with you. Just one of those Polaris owners that could not own anything other than a Polaris, even if Tom Tiller himself said they sucked! LOL

Wow! I think this one got alot off topic. I don't think that I have had my AC 650 up to top speed yet because IT WON'T STOP SNOWING!!! but the other day on a totally snow packed road i had it up to 65 mph then I ran out of road. I think that i could of got it faster it was still climbing.

A buddy of mine , lives on my street, bought the arctic cat 650, it has sick power, and tops out around 68 mph. You all know about the ground clearance and suspension. That bike is quit heavy, but he can stand it up on the back wheels without much in the way of effort. I have an a.c.400, i love it but it has no where near the power of the 650.

500HO compared to AC650??? Why compare? They are both 700lb+ boat anchors!!!! Heep your belts in your sleds and your chains on your sport quads. I can't believe I had to read a bunch of whiney Polaris and Cat riders cry about whose right about which quad is a bigger POS!!!!!!!!! And if I wanted to, I still don't know which is faster, or which is quicker off the line. But I now know Polaris's are still chain drive. Whoopeeee!!!!
