I PRIMARLY RIDE DIRT BIKES BUT LOOKING TO BUY ANOTHER QUAD. I HAVE A KODIAK 400 FOR MY WIFE. WHICH WOULD BE BETTER FOR ME, A GRIZZLY OR A KODIAK 450 FOR ONLY TRAIL RIDING? CAN YOU HELP ME? THANKS FRED

That is quite a comparsion you are asking for. IRS to straight axle and about 200cc's difference in size. Not to mention the price difference. So what kinda trails are you riding? IRS rides alot smoother over the rocks but after riding the Kodiak 450 you can get used to the difference. AlaskaBoy.

Hey alaskaboy I like the look of those mudlites on your Kodiak. I was thinking of going with those on mine. How do you like them? Did you notice any power loss with those compared to stock? What width are they?

Blue Bus, I don't know if I lost any power because I did not get to ride it before the tires were put on I went several years with my old quad before I replaced the tires and iwanted to do it from the start and I got a good price for AK on them(500 tires and rims) The sizes are 26x10x12 fronts and the rears are 26x12x12's. I was only able to ride it for a short time before it snowed and it was very positive, they work great in the mud of course but they also did great on the slippery rocks and logs and they rode very smooth on the hard pack not rumbly like the 589's. I was used to Bear Claws and from what I have seen they are very close to the same tire in performance and they look good with the rims if you ask me. AKBoy.

Riding on tight trails is the ONLY time I can beat my buddies Griz. He beats me in mud, straight races, hills, pulling, you name it. But on windy narrow trails, he's done for

My 400 Kodiak is excellent on the tight trails. the turning radius is too big on the larger units. Yamaha should put a 500 motor in the Kodiak frame. That would be a unit.

maico i agree with a 500 engine. only of they kept the weight down though. Some people say that yamaha doesnt need a 500 cause it has the kodiak 450. Funny thing is a 400 polaris sportsman is actualluy a 425cc engine. the kodiak 450 is actually a 421cc engine. Figure that one out....

I like the 450 its very easy to ride and and the wife loves it and she has no problem muscling it around. I sold my 02 Grizz to get the 03 Kaw it fits my riding style much better than the Grizz .I love to trail ride fast and need a quad that will go slideways without spilling my beer. I would want a quad that beats my wifes I dont think the 450 is any faster of quicker than the 400 it is a better quad but I would get the Grizz or Kaw. But what the heck they all are fun

sURE THE GRIZZLY WEIGHS AND COST MORE BUT THE KODIAK IS LIGHT SLEEK AND CAN BURN A GRIZZLY ON A TRAIL. i KNOW BECAUSE I HAVE BEATEN MY UNCLES GRIZZ ON THE TRAIL ALL THE TIME. sURE ITS FASTER BUT LOOK AT THE PRICE DIFFERENCE. hE USUALLY GOES SLOW ON THE TRAILS TO AVOID TIPPING IT. hE HAS ALREADY TIPPED IT THREE TIMES AND IS ABSOLUTLY TERRIFIED OF CREEKS. iN MY OPINION THE KODIAK WINS HANDS UP.
