Default Honcho 4x4???

Anyone ever owned or rode a Honcho quad? I guess they were made in the 80's and were built in the U.S. They came with briggs and straton engines.

I remember seeing one once at a dealerback in the mid 80s. I think it had a full length exposed drive chain for the 4x4 system. I could imagine those things lasting very long.

No they were not that good but they were kinda neat. They had huge Goodyear tires. They did not have any suspension. I owned a custom honcho with a atc 200 engine. We toyed with the idea of putting a 650 twin yamaha engine in it but never did it.

They did have exposed chain drives.

I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences with one.

Its kinda cool to look back at all the crappy 3 wheelers and quads from the 80's. Even honda, yamaha ,kawi, made some turds. Did you check out 3 wheeler worlds web site. It is awsome. They might have a link to the honcho .

A Friend of mine has one in his backyard collecting dust. I had never seen one before. It does have a full length chain for FWD. It does't have a engine on it. I was thinking of putting a 10hp engine on it but didn't knoe if it would have enough juice to push it fast. Do you know what kind of breaking system it had on it, because I cant see anything on it now. If you find anymore info on it please pass it forward. Doing a little research, I think it might ahve been a 255. thanks irvman358

If I remember correctly the thing had a sub-transmission that had a built in brake. If you could find a trx 200 engine or maybe a Kawasaki lakota 300 you may be able to use that engine. You need to find a sub-transmission for the brake though. Dont expect much speed out of it. It could be a fun mud hog though. I can't think of anything else that is noteworthy but feel free to ask.

Default Honcho 4x4???

I've got a Honcho 4X4. It's an interesting quad, to say the least. Mine has a Kawasaki Heavy Ind. 8.5 hp engine and a Comet F/R transmission. From what I understand, these quads were made on an individual basis, so engines and components may differ greatly. Wolverines right, the transmission has a external band brake on the layshaft of the tranny. Although these quads are pretty primative by todays 4x4 standards, they are pretty good for slogging through real swampy stuff. The major drawback to them (other than the slow top speed) is the large turning radius. Anyway, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I have a Honco 4x4 also. I don't know much about it though. I do know it has a Kohler engine in it, but i'm not sure about the transmission. I was wanting to know if anyone knew a good place to get transmissions or rebuild kits.
