problems with warn winch!
#1
Im having problems with my warn 2.5ci. It doesent have any pulling power. I checked that the cable was spooled correctly as well as all the wires were tight and had a good connection. First i thought the battery was weak or something but it does the samething when the motor is runing and reved up. It will pull but acts like there is much more resistance than ther accualy is and will stop wher as it used to grind down but the motor would never accualy stop spinning. I dont think i burned the motor out because i was always careful not to winch for very long and stuff like that.

If you bought your 2.5 relatively quickly after they came out, it is possible that you got a contactor unit that was not sealed well enough. Unless your contactor is located under your seat and has never been submerged, then I would say take it off and take it apart. See if there is any crap on the contacts themselves. A buddy of mine has one that the contactor was actually full of mudd when he took it apart.
Start there, see what ya find. When you put it back together, use some RTV Silicone on it and seal her up well. Shouldn't happen again.
Hope this helps.

Is your winch in it's warranty period still? If so, DON'T take apart the contactor, call Warn first and they'll get you a number for your nearest warranty center and they will replace your contactor, maybe the thumbswitch, and POSSIBLY the entire winch. Apparently there were some updates made even recently but I would let them know of your dilemna, warranty or not, and they'll take care of you. I just went through this with the 2.5ci on my wife's 400 Sportsman. The warranty dealer said he has seen the motors burned up because of Contactor related issues and actually wanted my winch too but I told them it was functioning fine, the contactor was failing and turning on and off even with the ignition off.

Ya the same thing is going on with my WARN 2.5ci, it came with the 2003 eiger that i have and now it doesn't work, the other eiger that i have has the same winch and it still works but one doesn't. When did the 2.5ci come out because i got mine in the end of July 2003 with the ATV. Thanks everyone for the info! I am going to buy Ramsley from now on because I have not had a good experience with WARN, they should of contacted dealers and they could of contacted me of this problem, if I hadn't gone looking I probably would of ended up buying a new winch.

Why not contact Warn and have them fix it if it's broken? Machinery is not infalable and unless you have been having continuous trouble, why replace it?

When I was suck in this really big mud hole and my Eiger was going under thats when the winch stopped working. But, luckily the SUV came and towed me out. So what do I do if the Winch has been submerged?
Thanks in advance!

josh,
I'm not sure I can answer that question about warranty and submersion. It would be best to call Warn and like they did for me, they'll likely direct you to a warranty dealer or center near you. They may wish to make that determination after seeing it.
As for your cable, I can't imagine they would deny warranty because you have replaced a cable. Cable are consumables on winches. They should be replaced periodically so that shouldn't be an issue. I don't think I would bother to even bring that to their attention.
