Default Advise on buying 1st ATV

I'm getting ready to buy my first ATV and need some advise. Use will be mostly utility, plowing snow, around the house work, hunting and the occasional just for fun trail riding. I've narrowed it down between the Suzuki Eiger 400 4X4 manual and the Suzuki Vinson 500 4X4 manual. I like the digital display and the push button 4X4 of the Vinson not to mention the extra CC's. But is this worth the extra $1000. I like the price of the Eiger. I have a feeling that the Eiger will do everything that I need it to do but having never rode either i'm not sure. Any advise from those of you that have been there done that? thanks

to tell ya the truth I'm not sure on either of those two but I would definitly recommend the 700 EFI to anyone looking to get into the EFI class, they are automatic, pushbutton on demand 4x4 which only engages the 4x4 when the computer sees the rear wheels spin 1 1/2 revolutions faster than the fronts. I have two of these for me and my wife and they are a nice quad. you could probably go with a polaris sportsman 500 h.o. which is carburated and be plenty for what your looking for. I recommend polaris because thats what I own and everyone I know has so this is my own opinion. what are the prices of the two you have listed.

my polaris sportsman 700 EFI's were $7250 each but you can pick up the 500 h.o. for like $5500

All I can tell you is I have an Eiger and really like it. This machine would do everything you need it to do. Good for both work and play.
If you did a search on the Eiger, I'm sure you have seen the term "best bang for your buck" thrown around alot. And that is one of the most attractive thing about the Eiger. Its hard to tell you if your $1000 is worth it. If funds are not a problem I would say the extra cc's, light and other little things are worth the extra money. If your looking to do all the things you have listed and want to spend the least amount of money you have to, go with the Eiger. Both are good machines, you would have a blast with either one. Good luck.

The Eiger is $5200 and the Vinson is $6200. I just got off the phone with the local Polaris dealer and they have the Sportsman 500 HO 2004 models for $5600. Any color, although the camo is $300 more.
That deal seems pretty hard to pass up.

Hi. all the utility wheelers in the 400 to 500cc range will work well for the conditions you have listed. The 500 sportsman is a very popular quad. If you like the deal they are offering you then this may be the best choice for you. Let us know what you wind up with , and GooD luck.

Sounds like you have done some looking already. I'll bet either one of those ATV's will do what you need. I think sometimes you are better off buying a little more than what you need to. It would be nicer to only "waste" $1000 than if you ended up not buying enough ATV.

Compare them feature to feature. Don't buy what I want you to buy or anyone else wants you to buy. Everyone seems to think what they have is best for everyone. I have friends thaat have the Vinson 5 speeds and have been very happy with them. They hunt and ride them hard.

I think when you sit on the seat of the one you want, you will know.

The eiger is awesome I have really beat the crap out of mine. After 3500 miles only routine maintaince and cosmetic damage from stupidity, as for the vinson it has rear disc brakes and more power but I think you would be better off with the eiger. Use the extra money that you'll save to buy all of the atv goodies that you need. Go to www.atvtv.com/Index.html They will give a very good review of the utilities listed in this thread, a non bias review that gives you info you can really use.

I'll get verbally thrashed for this, but from a fellow rider to a future fellow rider, please don't get the Polaris. I've just seen too many people having ridiculous problems with their Polaris's over the years. If you need reasons I'll be glad to pass those along, but I doubt you'll listen to my advice so I just wanted to state my opinion before I went into detail about it.

Thats why I'm here, to get the most info possible. What are some of the problems with the Polaris?
