Default warn winch problem

im new to the site.
anyways i got a 2.5 warn winch and i have nothing but problem with it, i burnt up one motor with in the first 5 months and I sent it back and warn fixed it. Last week i needed the winch to get me out of a big mud hole and the freakin thing didnt work. I took the motor end apart and found out it was all burnt up. What can i do about it and does anyone have this problem?
When I installed it they tell you to put it lower the better, but if you have it to low it will get all muddy and wet

problem sounds electrical.burnt motor sounds like too high amps or a short /ground problem.how is it wired ?through ignition.does it have its own inline fuse?you should blow a fuse before the motor burns up i would think.do the motors require lubrication?im no professional but those are the questions i would be asking. good luck

It definately sounds like something is shorting out. I have the 2000 and I was told not to wire it directly to the battery or it would burn the motor up. I wired it to the low beam on my headlights and it works fine. Whenever I want to use my winch I have to turn my light on first. With the light off, there is no power to the winch. Check inside your switch, maybe the wires are touching.

Default warn winch problem

Mine is wired direct and I have had no problem. Mine is a Tusk, not a Warn though it should not matter. I have a circuit breaker wired in by the battery however.

yeah if you wire it direct to the battery.definetly put an in line fuse on the positive wire.this should blow the fuse before damaging the motorif there is a problem.i once made the mistake of wiring a spotlight direct without inline fuse.i learned from that one.i ended up burning out all kinds of wires.
