IRS vs solid rear axle

If you were getting a atv (doesn't matter which one)and had a choice between IRS and a SRA, how much more money ( if any) would you pay for IRS when campared to the SRA. How many people prefer the SRA for their riding style?

if you trail or mud ride you will love RIS and never go back to SRA, but if you like to go fast and track ride, you should stay with SRA.
As for money i think RIS runs about 800 to 1300 more for the same class SRA machine.

I love SRA . It works for what I do. As for not good in the mud I can show you the Trophies I took over the new IRS quads this year.
But its all about how you ride and what you plan to do with it. Try and tow a log on a slight side hill with a IRS unit. Try sideways drinking from a beer at 50 or 60 on a IRS. Try a good sidehill on most of them and you will cry for SRA.Ever try and Ice race one?
What they do have is the best ride. As of now all the units out are set up just for ground clearnce and forgo handeling in a big way.

For the type of riding I do. trails and utiltity functions, I like SRA. Moreover, four CV joints on the front of the machine are four opportunities for problems; last thing I want is eight CV joints on an off road unit.

alot depends on where and how long of ride, but I would say I prefer an SRA quad most of the time, just more fun to play on wheel spinning corner driffting ect.ect.ect.
If your riding stile leans to the sportier side,go SRA
If slower smother riding is your thing, Go IRS
The money realy does not matter if your not happy with what you buy. If you buy an IRS quad and are board when riding it or If you buy an SRA and are ubcomfortable either way you are not happy. figure out what makes you happy and go with it.

I watch his stuff sometimes and his reviews can be pretty helpful occasionally but some things annoy me. First is everything is rocks, rocks, rocks, desert, desert, desert. That stuff is all well and good but at least for around here we don't see many rocks and all the desert we have is river and creek bottoms in a drought. We see more mud, snow and woods riding. Just because an ATV is good for riding around on rocks or running across the desert flat out doesn't mean it is going to be a good ATV for where I live. He seems to be more of a sport oriented rider which is fine. But when it comes to slogging through mud, dragging crap around on the farm or trail riding through the woods all of the rock crawling and sliding through desert washes don't mean a whole lot. Something else I have noticed is that he is a pretty small guy. What is going to seem too big, too bulky, too tall or too stiff of a ride for him is not going to be applicable to a larger rider. He likes smaller ATVs because they are more suited for his particular body type. He might be danged uncomfortable on a BF for instance but drop a 6'7" 350 pound guy on the same machine and it might be an entirely different story. He always seems to complain about having to reach too far for things or in the case of some utility side by sides he was reviewing, he couldn't reach the pedals and the seat was too tall. A IRS for him might be unsuitable for a short and light guy flying across the desert at 45or 50MPH but for a bigger guy creeping though the woods and slogging through the mud and snow around here it would be better than an SRA machine. It is hard to evaluate an ATV's suitability for woods riding and mud and snow when you are in the desert.
And yes, you can tell he really really dislikes IRS ATVs for what seems to be the reasons of them not having the high speed handling characteristics of a SRA. Well for many people high speed handling is pretty irrelevant.
I watch, I am entertained sometimes but I remind myself that everything I hear is being ran through the "small lightweight guy who rides rocks and likes to fly across long desert tracks" filters. I might add that I have talked to folks that have met him and he is a genuinely decent and really, really nice man. Very pleasant and loves to talk ATVs and the like with folks.
