Default IRS vs solid rear axle

Thanks for your take on the "Doug Meyer" story, Captain Quint.

I've always thought he would be a genuinely nice guy if I met him, and I could 'straighten him out' -

I think his 'bent' to the desert is because his ranch is in the desert, and that's where the majority of his program(s) is filmed.

His shop is "to die for", if it's really his shop. I liked his reviews of wheels and tires. Neither IRS nor SRA came into play there. And his trip to the Paiute Trail area was cool. But his absolute hate for Arctic Cats (what my wife and I own) and Bombardier ticks me off.

Last year he referred to Honda's automatic tranny as "That Silly Transmission". This year it's the best thing out there. Can't figure that one out.

But overall, I enjoy the show simply because it's about ATV's. I watch Fisher and ATV Magazine too.

I watch his show...but he is definately nicer to his shows sponsors than any other quad out there...this weekend I saw him reviewing 400cc utes....he gave the Honda all 9s and a couple 8s...the Suzuki was close behind...both averaging above 8.....no other quad broke 7.5. Sponsorship is everything

I take most of what he says with a grain of salt. Also....those little 6" things he calls rocks are pebbles.....maybe he should come up to the northwest and ride on some big wet slimy rocks with his SRA quad.

Maddog,

If you don't want to read it or write anything useful, don't, simple as that , skip this topic. There are new people on all the time that have a thought on the subject they can reply.

Your reply search it has been said "litterally dozens of times".

There is no reason that the new people cant post in existing threads. The fewer threads we have on a subject the easier it is to find the information you want and to have more opinions on the subject. I have had plenty of positive things to contribute on this board, this subject included. I simply tire of posting the same information and participating in the same debates week in and week out. This debate is not a new one, and there are vast amounts of information availible on these boards. Its better to research first and then ask questions when you have more information at your disposal.

BTW, you are not a new member by my standards and you have probably seen three or four of these threads come to pass.

I love my IRS on my Rincon. Great ride on the roads as well as the trails. I wouldn't trade if for anything. I'm sure there are some downfalls to those hardcore riders, but all the trails I've been on so far have been no problem. I just lean a little more sometimes.

Good Luck

I like SRA better for how I ride. Why does everyone keep talking about how the IRS are so unstable at high speeds? I don't know of ANY big util's that are. just my 0.2$

Just for laughs! I'm retired, so I have lots of time to "redesign" quads, as they just don't make the one I want. I've wondered if it were possible to take a front end off a 4X4 and replace the rear end with it, giving it an IRS. I suspect that; 1) the drive shaft is not centered, and therefore wouldn't work unless the rear was offset, 2) the drive shaft is turning in the wrong direction. If I had as much money as time, heheheh, I'd have a garage as big as Dough Meyer's and do some serious chopping!
