When I wear one, I have a Bombardier Modular Helmet, with sliding sun shade. It is a very good brain bucket for cold riding, as it vents breath out the side. It is a snowmachine helmet, and the new model is even better. Very expensive in my book, but than what price a head?

My whole family wears full face helmets. If you roll over so something, it will save a lot of damage to your nugget. Prolly save a life also......

Full face motocross or street style will keep your teeth in your head if you hit the ground, get at least DOT, Snell is even better, some of the cheapies will crack on impact like a egg. and wear eye protection, polycarb, glasses or shield, goggels, bell helmets on line has good deals.

Hi I have seen a few Moto style helmets that will also except a shield so that it will keep you warm in the winter as well. It also comes with a double shield so it will not fog up . I like the idea because they offer good protection , look good and with the shield in place can keep you warm and fog free in the cold season

I'm using a HJC with a full face shield....not a full-face helmet,,,,just the shield...it is perfect for cold and warm weather riding.....not that I ride with the helmet much during the summer here in New Mexico, would melt my head off....lol

M2R MX. I'm lusting a One Trooper to do a review on though (come on ed.) I contemplated wearing an "open face" but beside the fact that I'm fugly, I don't like getting slapped in the face (unless it's by a dominatrix J/K!) by branches, etc. And the visor has saved me a few times too. I always wear a helmet because I make my kids wear 'em and can't hardly justify my not wearing one. Plus, since I've gotten older, I realize that I'm not bullet proof. I feel everyone should wear a helmet offroad-**** happens too fast to say that you don't need one. And heat is no excuse. I can't imagine leaving my family in a screwed up situation due to the fact that I was too stupid to protect my head.

The best helmet is the one you will wear all the time. Full face offers more protection than an open faced one does. Some people do not like the closed in feeling you get from them.. so decide on what works best for you. The most important thing is that you wear what you buy, not take it off because you are uncomfortable in it.
I am surprised to hear people say they wear street bike helmets though.. and I 'll explain why. They are HEAVY compared to a MX helmet for a good reason. All that weight will over time wear your neck out bouncing around offroad on a long ride. The lightweight MX style helmet is just easier to live with. Plus, if you do have a get off, all that weight has the potential to cause more severe injuries, than the lighter weight MX one will. Whiplash is a real possibility, and what might be a simple whiplash with a mx style helmet, could end up being a broken neck using a street helmet.
Buy what you are comforable with, but make sure it fits properly... It should be tight, and you should not be able to wiggle it around without turning your head. Don't buy one too big.. because over time, it needs to form to your face and skull... This is not to say, you should get one that gives you a headache either... but it should be snug.
