Here is one that we use all the time. We make a thermous of Beef Broth, and then put in some sherry. Called Hunters Sherry ,and is delicious, and very warming. Sounds wierd but everyone that has tried it up here has liked it! And we get cold. I am only 70 miles south of the Arctic Circle.
was -52 last night.

No Air Force up here, except the ones dog fighting over my house.
I was Army Infantry. got out in 64. Was in some real fun places in the Indochina.
I was one of those guys that was spit on when I got home! But only once!!
"Go to Foreign Country's, Meet interesting people, and Kill them."
"Fighting for Peach is like, F---ing for Chastity." old 60's sayings.
Thanks for your service to our country!!!!!
I guess in your position I would not want to eat any MRE"S unless I had to.
You'll get to like them about 10 years after you get out of the Service.
If you get deployed, Keep your butt down.

Hey Fred, this sea salt thing sounds a bit strange. Where or how did you discover this little trick? I'm afraid I'd have a stream of salt water running out of my gloves, and depending on what your gloves are made of, this could turn them into hand shaped rocks the next day. You been using this 'technique' long?

bin doing it about 2 years and if you use sea salt it always works fine! and if for some odd reson they did turn into rocks wich has never happend to me... you could just put them in warm watter and it would disolve the salt! it works good! realy keeps the heat in better! you doont have to do it, it was just a tip on how to stay warm!

When on long 10 hour+ rides I make a trail stew wraped in 3 layers of foil. All items are simple and it tastes great, they are as follows:
1) Thin sliced New York steak (un cooked)
2) Small carrots or sliced and or any other vegee's
3) Raw or blanched sliced potatos
4) Red or white onions
5) Salt, black pepper, season salt on the meat the night before or a meat marinaid
Total pre-cooked weight around 1.5-1.75 Lbs.
Total cooking time on fire and coals around 40 to 50 mins. It tasts great but bring a spoon or fork as it sucks eating with your hands.
Your riding buddies will be sniffing around your foil half way through cooking because it smells great so be prepared for beggers! LOL
