Default Tachometer.....retrofitting one...??

I have a 2002 king quad. I wanna find a tachometer from a car or motorcycle and retrofit it to work on the 1 cylinder engine of my ATV. Has anyone done this before and what is involved in making it read properly on a single cylinder engine??

Why don't you just go and buy a tach and put it on. I have a small digital one on my Grizz from Tiny Tach and it only cost about $35. Easy to install also, just mount the tach and there is one wire running from it and at the end it splits into two wires with one getting wrapped around the sparkplug wire a few times and the other going to ground. It updates about every 2 seconds.
