2x4 or 4x4?
Hey Everybody, thanks for all the feedback... I'm convinced the 4x4 is the way to go. I thought I had discovered a great deal on a 2004 Rancher ES, but when I called they said it was sold. So, I am now looking at either the 2005 Rancher, or Yamaha Bruin, or Suzuki Eiger. All 4x4 and the Yamaha and Suzuki automatic versions. Still trying to find a dealer somewhat near that has decent prices. The best I have found is Southern Honda, great prices on the Rancher, but I'm bummed that the 2005 is $500 more than the 2004 that I just missed.
For the money, the Suzuki seems to have a lot to offer, especially with the low/high transmission and selectable 2x4 or 4x4, but I'm still looking for the right deal...
Thanks,
David

If you're getting a new 4x4 I think you get the most options for the price with a Suzuki Eiger. If you don't mind not getting all the bells & whistles then the Yamaha Bruin is a capable machine for the money. We have three that ride with us and they go everywhere we do. Not a bad little machine.

I hate to rain on your parade BigShep but it doesn't sound like you do much riding. If you did you wouldn't be quad bashing. I'm not sure what kind of trails you see there in OK but I'm sure it's nothing worse than here in AK and believe me we have some pretty extreme terrain. I ride with a very very large group all with different quads from 300cc Hondas to the BF, Sportsman 700 EFI, and Griz. The smaller quads and even your so call 3x4s are more than capable and go everywhere the larger ones do. Lockers are better but all the 4x4 systems can get just about everyone where they want.

Hey outrage I am going to quote my dad. " You can allways tell a man from Oklahoma, just not very much!" I believe out of every 4x4 that suzuki has sold only 2 have not had a lockable front differental the eiger and vinny. All of the others( Quadrunner/Quadmaster, king Quad old and new versions and the twin peeks) have it.
As to 2x4 vs. 4x4 go with the 4x4, its like having an old lady, there when you need it.

How does it sound like i dont do much riding im out every weekend riding with 350s and up and all brands of atvs. I ride with 10 to 12 people every week and we dont just drive up and down roads so dont say i dont do much riding u dont know me. I have seen it week after week what a honda compared to a yamaha can do or what a kawasaki to a polaris can do, hell you live in what alaska u drive on ice and snow or threw a bunch of trees all day, or do u just climb up rocky hills. well what ever you do im sure its not no less than what everyone else has done on a atv. I do anough riding to bash any quad i want and i do it every week cause im tired of pullin them back to the truck or out of the mud.

BIGSHEEP has a point! 3X4 is a disadvantge.... the only 2 things honda has going for them is there unkillable motors and all there diehard riders! thats it none of them lock up most of them are full time 4X4 they dont have cvt they have that crapy auto type trans wich onse it dies it dies compared to a belt that you can shred and replace for 80$ or less and now polaris has life time warenty on there belts so you dont have to pay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have a suzuki and it dose fine i just dislike the lock in only sppr low!
