Default 2x4 or 4x4?

Good day all,

I have never owned an ATV, but am considering buying one. We have a small farm and I think an ATV would be very useful and tons of fun. I'm looking at the Honda Rancher ES in 2 and 4 wheel drive. I am leaning towards 2x4 because it is so much less expensive. Would I ever really need 4 wheel drive?

My plans for it are: Drag the pasture and roundpen with a chain harrow. Haul the horse poop cart through the woods to dump. Ride through the woods to make a few trails suitable for atv and horse use. Have a little fun riding around the property...

Thanks,
David

go with 4x4 ... if it's muddy or snow covered a 2x4 will not drag or tow as well.

I don't know where you live, but anyway if you are using it for towing you shoud probably get 4x4.

Get the 4x4, if you get the 2x4 and you find out you really should have gotten the 4x4, you are screwed. Snow and mud being the 2 biggest reasons for 4x4.

The money spent for the 4x4 will be well worth it.

Wow, I did not expect such a unanimous result! I am in Georgia, snow is not a problem, but we have had lots of rain lately. For the last couple of weeks, the ground stays wet all the time, so it is very slippery right now. Who knows what it will be like when the summer drought comes...

I will check out the 4x4 option and see if I can stretch the budget that high... Thanks for the opinions...

if its possible try to get a quad with selectable 4 wheel drive, times u'll need 2 wheel drive, times u'll need 4 wheel drive. I only use my 4 wheel drive when i have to so look into that as well if your intrested

I'm with everyone else...you will want a 4x4. Maybe go with the Bruin. They may be a basic 4x4 machine but they are quite capable.
