Default Kodaik question about hesitation

I'm asking for help. I have always had a slight hesitation in my 2004 450 kodiak. this happens when you first give it gas there is like a dead spot then it takes off. or it wants to cut out on you when for give it gas or take off and when it is in 4wd. well yesterday a went on a ride where I had to cross a creek a few times now this creek is not super deep and I crossed it some last year with no problem, but yesterday it would want to stall out even if there was a small almount of water in the road. if I went in it, it wanted to stall out. I would have to keep the throttle wide open when i crossed the creek or hit a water spot in the road. this is a stock bike all but the 26 inch mud lites and ITP wheels. it is starting to do this more now and I would like to know if anyone has any idea what is going on. thanks

Default Kodaik question about hesitation

It sounds like 2 different problems. The hesitation on the take off was something I dealt with on my grizzly. I was running the idle to slow and I was slightly lean on the pilot jet. The griz is supposed to idle at 1350 to 1500 rpm and I had it at around 800. Once it was set correctly it really halped. I would also consider turning the idle mixture screw out 1/4 turn. It is right under the exhaust of the carb next to the engine. Remember exactly how much you turn it so you can put it back any time you need to.
The water problem could be a short in the spark plug boot or even steam in the exhaust. I don't have any good ideas on that, but getting the idle straightened out will do wonders for the whole throttle range.
