Truth of the matter is, the Mudlites may very well be the best true mud/trail tire out there. HOWEVER, they are composed of a soft rubber and wear poorly compared to competitive tires. The Goodyear Mudrunners, although a tad bit pricey, will fit the bill exceptionally and wear VERY well. The new Highlifter Outlaw MSTs, which I hope to get my hands on, look to be on par with the Mudrunners, but only time will tell. On the more trail and less mud side of things, there are the Maxxis Bighorns which once again put a little bit more stress on your wallet but will perform well in all aspects and from the look of the tread design, perform for quite a while. I don't know if the jury is in on the new Mudlite XTRs as far as longevity, but I'm sure the performance is awesome.

I have the 26" Mud Lite XL's and absolutely love them. They are great in the mud and snow and remain comfortable on the trail for the most part. I have also heard great reviews about the Maxxis Mud Bugs. They are the same weight, or maybe a hair lighter than the Mud Lites and from what I hear, they are more durable. You maight want to take a look into these. Just a suggestion

Now I can vouch for the Super Swamper Vampires. Great in mud and very durable tire, however your powersliding abilities will be greatly diminished if you like playing baja racer out there on the trails.

Very true, but joe asked for a more trail-friendly tire as well and I personally do not believe the Vamps fit that bill. I enjoy the sportiness of the stock tires, but will soon put either Mudrunners or Outlaw MSTs on because they are quite aggressive, but will still allow you to slide around on the hardpack. I forgot the Mudbugs and Gators, which are virtually the same tire, they are probably very good too.

Well the Mudlite XTR is now out in the 12 inch model. I just ordered a set of 26 inchers on ITP Type 5 wheels. I will post when I have some feedback. Im pretty anxious to get them. They do look pretty nasty....

I'm happy to say I ride with a group that has many KQ owners. Almost all have different tires too and here's what I've seen.

Mud Bugs are better than Mud Lites hands down. I had 26" Mud Lites but have moved to 27" Mud Lite XTRs on 17" rims. The 27" Bugs seem to be better than the XTRs but then again I did go with the 17" rim which is better for the hard packed stuff. If you want a mudder then stick with the 12" rim for more floation. Now are the XTRs better than the standard Mud Lites I'm still not sure. They are on the hard packed stuff without a doubt but in the mud I'm still testing them out.

I prefer the Dirt Devils over the Mud lights. They're almost identical in weight, they wear better and they are usually cheaper. Also, with the staggered tread pattern you get a little better ride on the hard pack trails.
