Reading too much in. That's the small cat in that pic. Other one's 26 lbs.

True, a winch is a much more sensible accessory than something to make the ATV faster. When you are stuck, fast doesn't matter. I strongly reccommend winch receivers so you can plug your winch on either end of the quad. Sometimes it isn't what you really want to do, go farther ahead and deeper into sh*t! You want back out.

Glen, I figured as much.....for the record though...you can BARELY see the cat in the picture! Jumping in here on the topic at hand.....I am waiting to buy my FIRST atv in just a few months at 31 yrs old and I absolutely can't wait! I am looking at the '05 or '06 King (I really don't see a lot of changes between the 2 yrs) and waiting first until Sept to see what Honda does or doesn't do with the Rincon.

So with that being said, what can I expect to pay for a good/decent winch with the brackets and everything. I know that I want a front and rear bumper as well and they look to be around $150 or so a piece. My other ? is how many of you have installed after market skid plates and what did you pay? Are they worth it?

stocks,

If you ride anywhere with large rocks then I would suggest full skid plates and cv boot guards. A large sharp rock will do a number on your frame and possibly your engine and tranny if it hits in the right place. If you don't plan on ridding over large rocks than the stock skid plates will probably do fine. I wouldn't say that it should be your first accessory but you may want to look at getting them down the road if you will be riding near rocks.

Well, I don't know what the bottom of a rancher looks like, so I don't know if you need skid plates. I've never had any problems without them, the bottom of my quad's pretty solid.

But no matter WHAT you do with your ATV, get a WINCH! It is amazing what these things can go through... but sometimes, you can get stuck in places you never imagined getting stuck, on stumps, in between trees, going over logs, that kinda thing. They can also help when crawling over obstacles like steep hills and large rocks - keeps you from rolling.

The last thing you want to do is have to push your 800 pound atv out of a mudhole (been there, but couldn't done that). A futile exercise.

Get a winch.
