Unspool the old cable. when you get to the last wrap push the cable into the winch drum. A small metal slug will fall out. Pull the cable out. Push the new Amsteel rope through the drum untill it comes out the other side. Tie an over hand knot in the rope. Wrapthe knot and rope a few inches a few times with electrical tape( just to protect it if there are and sharp spots in the hole)and pull the knot into the hole.Respool the drum. When using your winch remember to always leave 6 to 8 wraps on the drum. Amsteel is very slippery stuff.

I have the Amsteel blue on my winch and I like it. I was used to the regular cable on my winch so when it would tighten up it would pull right away. With the Amsteel blue it stretches a little before pulling but that just takes a little getting used too. I pulled a Sportsman 500 out of a snow drift with it and it worked fine. It hasn't frayed(sp) like a wire cable will and for using a plow it works better then a wire cable. It's more or less an extra strong rope so if it breaks you won't have a recoil like a wire cable and it's also easier to work with. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

 

how much did you pay for the Amsteel? I am interested in doing this to my new winch on the ATV, but the Amsteel line for my Warn 9000 on my Jeep is like 200 bucks for 100 feet.

Will it not get frayed pretty easy if you are pulling it over a rock or a tree inadvertently? Don't you have to buy their pollished hause fairleed to prevent any sharp edges from catching it?
Just a few concernes I would have to address before I would concider buying it.
