Default locking diff required?

Good explanation! Thanks.
I still can't get my head around the idea of making a traction assist system that is designed from the start to fail when you need it most of all!
The engineers of such a setup should be taken out back and beaten sensless. (Is that possible? They obviously have little common sense)

I have a 2004 honda rincon and my "torque sensing" front differential doesnt really work any better than a regular limited slip differential but all you have to do is hold the front brakes when you want the differential locked to act as traction on both front tires. I've never gotten stuck somewhere because my one of my front tires wasnt spinning so i don't see the need for a locked front differential.

I put a spool in the front of my '98 forman when the clutch style limited slip eventually wore out and I love it. If your into serious mudding or crossing ditches and that sort of thing, its a life saver. For plowing and hill cimbing, its about the same as a properly working limited slip. I really only have the need for a full locker for the real hard stuff...if your a trail rider its not really required.

With a 350 foot drivewat at a 40-50 degree slope, I would be more afraid of getting up to the 300 foot mark and then loosing traction. Can you immagine sliding backwards down that sucker.

50 degress isn't a driveway it's a friggin' cliff. Before you try to plow this yourself, try to find a professional to do it. If it's actually 50 degrees you won't find anyone in there right mind to do it.

If you do find someone crazy or stupid enough, make them sign a release.

Now since your obviously a novice when it comes to ATV's I'm gonna put it like this. I'f you try to climb this drive (cliff) covered with snow and or ice with an ATV with a blade on the front, you've got a good chance of winding up in the hospital or dead.
