Plow blade size
#1
I have a Suzuki Vinson 500 Auto and bought a 48" blade. Because of the "big wheel" kit, the quad is almost wider than the blade. I called the shop where I bought it and they said they had a 60" that I could trade in for (with a few extra bucks).
Would a 500 be able to push a 60" blade ok? I could order something smaller, but just curious on everyone's thoughts about how big of a blade I could use.

Skidoog.........My friend has that same quad as you........He pushes a 52 inch plow with no problem...Basically you want a plow wide enough so when you have it angled all the way, it's still wider than your tire prints....Lay a couple boards on the outsides of your tires on each side and take a measurement with your existing plow angled all the way to figure out how wide a plow you will need...Just an idea........

For the past 2 years I had a Honda 450ES with a 56" blade (custom built), and it worked very well. I ran out of traction (even with chains on all 4 wheels) before I ran out of power.
Notice below that I now have a 60" blade on my Vinson 500 auto. The dealership told me that any 500cc or larger machine, would be very capable of handling a 60" blade. I would not have wanted a blade any smaller.
Keep in mind that when you make even a mild turn, the cleared path is lessened in the inside of the turn (in reference to your rear wheels.)
Have fun!

The blade on my Griz is only 48". I only use about 3/4 of the width to keep from leaving wind rows. I like a smaller blade because I have to push through some big drifts sometimes and that extra 2 or 4 inches adds up to a lot of extra weight.

I bought it at my local shop - K&W. I forget the name of the blade, someting like quad country.

wow - thats a lot. I paid like $450, but I did buy it with the quad so maybe they gave me a deal. If you want, I can ask what it would cost for your quad. I have to go back there in a few days when my winch comes it.
Did that price include a winch or something? If so, I could see it being that much.
There are four parts to a plow package.
1. blade
2. push bar
3. mounting kit
4. life mechanism (which is one of the three choices below)
- winch
- electric blade lift (similar to a winch, but cheaper)
- manual lift lever
BTW - now that I have a plow, I am selling my snowblower. It's a 10hp 33inch two stage - $500.
