The manufacturer's towing numbers are pretty useless -- they are not so much what the quad can pull, but what it can stop and control. I'd bed that most utility 4x4's would have no problem getting a several thousand pound trailer moving (done it myself with my little 400), but when you try to stop, all four tires just skid. When turning, the back of the quad just gets pushed out from behind you.
The Polaris has the highest recommended towing weight because it is the heaviest quad, and can therefore hold its own against a heavier pushing on it.
As for all out pulling, those numbers mean very little.
In terms of a tug of war, the issue is traction, not power. Once a quad gets all four tires spinning (on some quads 3, which is a disadvantage) the only difference in the quads is traction between the tire and the ground. THis is increased by better tires and more weight. I'd say just about any utility 4x4 these days can spin all four tires, so the issue is then weight and tires.

Tyler711,
You just duplicated what I have been saying the whole time. Weight, tires/traction, gearing. Polaris has the best in all three of these categories. This topic keeps going in circles and posts keep getting replicated.

Yes i'm sure polaris will win in a PULL OUT.
This tugof war thing you people are talking about is rediculus. Usually either wheeler moves and both riders get pelted with rocks and gravel.
But yeah, if you hook to a sled, polaris will probalby win all the way because of the weight. Their boat anchors.

U guys wanna see some wheelers pick and scratch for traction?
Hook them up on dirt pulling front to front. Talk about dig. So much weight gets transfered to the front tires its insane!!!
ANd when they start to get loose and slide back and forth it gets fun real quick.

V2rider,
let me clear this up for you. This topic is about stock machines, just as they are on the show room floor, as stated in the very first post. Sorry, but polaris has better stock tires the Arctic Cat for pulling or mudding. If you put better tires on it, it is no longer stock. As for the weight they're close but the popo has it a little, however, the gearing on the popo is lower than the cat.

I think the tire thing is all opinion. I have Goodyear MT/R Radial tires, that came stock. My buddys 06 sportsman 700 seems to get stuck more than i do, more so in the snow, which he blames on polaris having crappy tires, and mine being better. So i assume its all a matter of opinion . But thanx for clearing that up for me
