What is the fastest 300-450 Utility atv.

i agree with kodman. the 400s were very quick and yet are also utlilties. if your scrambler cant beat a 250ex then there is something wrong with it. Scramblers have the same if not almost similar trannies as explorers so theirs your low gear. i dont know whats going on but i and alot of others think the scrambler 400 and 500 are great sport/utilities.

Again, check the speed of that rancher with a gps. The only other way it would go 58mph other than being in the bed of a truck is if you tied it to an OL800efi :-) Sorry, but it is not possible for a stock rancher to go 58mph in any conditions. Not trying to argue with you, and frankly I don't care, but just so others that read this post aren't mislead into thinking it will, cause it won't. Only honda utility that can make it to 58mph is the rincon. Don't get me wrong, the rancher is one of the best definetely most dependable, and toughest quads made. It is just not going to win many races, which it is not designed for. It is too low geared, has very low hp, but lots of torque. It is a pulling beast, but hp is what gives you speed, torque is what gives you pulling. To give you an example, the Polaris Sportsman 500ho (499cc) produces 38hp. The Honda Rubicon 500 (499cc) produces 22hp.

I was looking up HP numbers a while back but I couldn't find anything on the Polaris 500 but I did get the 600 polaris. What I would really like to know is the torque at the wheels.
This is what I came up with from highlifter a while back all stock quads rear wheel HP:
Honda 400 peak 13.5hp@31mph
honda 650 pk 22hp@38mph
honda 450 pk 12.25hp@24mph
polaris 600 pk 24.2hp@ 24mph----23hp @ 31mph
yamaha 660 griz pk 28.2hp@28mph
Yamaha 450 kodiak pk 18.3hp@25mph
AC400i pk 15.1hp@34mph
AC 500i pk 21hp@22mph
Kawi 650 pk 31.5hp@21mph
suz Eiger pk 18.1hp@20mph
suz Vinson pk 23.25hp@ 22.5mph----21hp@31mph

That is hp at the crank. The polaris 600 and 500 have almost the same hp. They are 2 completely different engines, designed by two diff companies. The 500 is an engine designed by Fuji Heavy Industries, which owns Subaru cars. They are known for making small bulletproof engines with big hp #'s and will run forever. The 600 is a Liberty twin engine designed by polaris. As I said it has about the same hp as the 500, but a little more torque. HP=speed, so this explains why the 500 will keep up with and sometimes outrun the 600 twin. Also, explains why polaris dropped the 600.
