I've used both Ramsey and Warn winches. Personally, I've been more impressed with the Ramsey, but both have served well.

I got the Polaris Warn 2500 lbs. winch for my two Sportsman 450's.........In with the sale(not free for sure)
I did the install myself(wife didn't want hers on yet)........save dealer install charges........It was easy to hook-up,pre-wired on the quad........If you check you may have a quad with a ready to install winch that can save you time ,money, and hacking your wires..................caper....................

I purchased a polaris mv7 which has winches installed front and rear from the factory... in 5 uses the rear winch stripped out. I sent it off for warranty work and could only get it back by fitting the $80 bill for "abuse." My front winch went out this past weekend-- while it has more usage, the machine has ~50hrs on it. I won't bother with sending it out for warranty work (1 year free of defect, i purchased the machine in September).
[sun gears are the failure]

I will try a 3000lb ramsey winch, but it aggravates me to spend the money on a new winch when these should have been good for several years. I always used the 2.5ci on my old four wheelers and they never gave any trouble.

anyone else seen this?

I was thinking of getting a 3000lb Venom winch. My friend has one and it has worked so far. They are all over E-bay and the prices are great! Anybody else have one? or heard anything about them? It's weird because my friend's came with Warn directions for installation.

one thing you MUST do is replace the Crappy grease they use on the venom with something like amsoil....if not it will seize up after only a few uses, they use junk for grease, outside of that it is a great product for the cost.

The venom wich is as good as any other, but as said, and ive preached it to other members, use a good synthetic grease and regrease it. I personally use Amsoil for everything

What are you supposed to grease on the Venom winches? Do you have to take it apart?

I have the 3000lb Venom and works great so far. I even pulled a 5500 John Deere tractor with it. Amazing power for the price.
