Default 2 stroke or 4 stroke

Somebody told me on another form that the two-strokes now burn just as clean or cleaner that the four stroke!!!!I will need more proof on that one!!!!!!!It was on the kids form I was wanted to get the Pink 90cc for my daughter but it was two-stroke!!!I don't mind but my daughter thinks it will smell like the snowmobile we drive.......I told her it will not be as bad as that ...only starting it up!!!....Caper........

What is your take on the topic?

The debate(kids form) was with "2manytoys"...I think he is on the Honda form ...It was from back near the end of Nov/06.......Caper....."

He said "they can make 2-strokes now to burn alot cleaner than the 4-strokes"

The biggest debate is that 2 strokes are being outlawed. This is not true at all. It comes down to EPA regulations. If you cant fall within the current year regulation for the clean air act then you can not manufacture it. Yes 4 strokes generally burn cleaner than older 2 strokes but technology has changed alot within the past few years where 2 strokes can burn much cleaner than 4 strokes but at a price. I am a boater and have a outboard 2 stroke v6 motor. By no means does it burn cleaner because it is older but being in the boat cene you would know how far 2 stroke technology has come. Any manufacture can do this.

Low-pollution marine engines are now available that greatly reduce hydrocarbon and toxic air emissions, and almost eliminate the release of gasoline constituents into waterways. The low-pollution engines have been developed by marine engine manufacturers in response to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations to control emissions from marine engines to help reduce air and water pollution. These engines are being phased into the marketplace by the engine manufacturers between model years 1998 and 2006. As of 2006, all new outboard engines and PWCs sold in the U.S. will be low-pollution technology.

The low-pollution outboards come as four-stroke or direct fuel injection two-stroke engines. Although these low-pollution engines may cost more (about 10 to 20 percent more than the old carbureted two-stroke engines), they provide many economic and environmental benefits, and are consumer friendly.

Any manufacturer can build a clean burning direct injection 2 stroke but would anyone pay for such technology in a ATV? I dont think so. Personal watercraft and boats are a sport in its own where people will pay the money for 2 strokes. Its not the actual boat that we pay alot for Its the motor. You can buy a nice boat for a few grand but the motor is going to cost between 8k-15k for a good outboard 2 stroke. An outboard 2 stroke on a boat is awsome. You want that 2 stroke punch in a boat to get up on top of the water as quick as you can. Most 4 strokes cant deliver that punch needed. Right now evinrude and mercury have the most efficient and cleanest burning outboard motors on the market. Both are 2 strokes.

So to anyone that says that 2 strokes are being banned is full of crap. As long as you have the technology to build a motor that meets EPA regulations it CAN be done.

Also caper if you use a good low smoke synthetic injection oil for the 2 stroke quads you hardly notice the smell. Some are actually scented like cherries or vanilla. My Honda Rincon smells worse than my sons 2 stroke 90.

Tha Jetmoto is alot better than the Yamoto but if you buy a new quad get a new 07 JetMoto. The quality with these is like no other Chinese quad. It is supposed to be on par with Japanese quads. Alot of changes have been made and they are being built By JetMoto just for Jetmoto unlike all the other 100 thousand no names. Eugene the owner of Jetmoto said he is doing everything he can to seperate his brand from every Chinese made brand. Alot of changes he has made is mostly from people here. MWQ has had alot of influence on the quads and has designed some thing for them. I had some troubles with my Jetmoto 150 and all of them have been addressed with the new ones. MWQ said with out a doubt there is nothing like them on the market and are built very well. I have seen pics and they are awsome. Im not saying 2 stroke is the way to go. Just about everything I own is 4 stroke except for boat and my sons 90. My sons 90 has just as much power if not more than a 4 stroke150cc. I just think alot of people are misled about 2 strokes and anyone that says that they are being banned has no clue what they are talking about. Also the reason why 2 stroke sleds are much stinkier is because they are a much bigger cc's then a 90 or even a 250. The 90's dont stink hardley at all. Thats why I like the Unison Desert Cat so much. It has everything the name brands has down to reliability, fit and function but at almost half the cost. I have never heard or read anything bad about the DC90. My son is 8 going on 9 and it fits hem great with room to grow. If people are looking at the 2 stroke 90 pred, Eton 90, Dinli 90 they are wasteing money because they can get the same basic quad form Unison at a much lower price. Why is Unison so much cheaper? Its all in the name. Unison is a small company. When you call Unison you talk to the owner or someone close to him. It is a Tiawan made quad so nothing is cheaply made. No cheap Chinese steel, wires, connectors and plastics. If I were you I would go with a DC90 or a JetMoto if you dont want to pay for name brand.

2 stroke motors have 2 strokes in between firing (1 full revolution).as the piston goes down exhaust escapes.as the piston goes up clean air and fuel/oil mix comes in until compression and combustion occur.so it fires every revolution of the crank.this is why they wind out real quick.but pollute more because while they bring in fresh fuel some of it gets wasted going out the exhaust port while cycling.
4 stroke motors have 4 strokes in between firing (2 full revolutions).
1st down stroke the intake valve is open and fresh air/fuel comes in
1st up stroke valves are closed and compression of the mix is ready for ignition
(ignition)
2nd down stroke is the explosion of the fuel/air
2nd up stroke the exhaust valve is open and the spent fuel and air excape thru to exhaust.

I thought about a name brand but this will be her first quad and I don't really know how much she will use it....Also she will out grow it(fast I bet).... and if it gets lots of use her next one will be a name brand..........Thanks I don't know what the 2007 jetmoto will sell for here in Canada...But the DC90 was priced just as much as the Polaris here in 2006.......Caper.....
