Polaris sportsman 500 v.s. Honda rincon 680?
I had a dealer tell me and my brother inlaw that a polaris 500 would drag my brother inlaws rincon all over the place. Is this true? I know the polaris is heavier and has low range but which has better pulling power and traction in mud and steep hills? Which would win in a drag race?

The sportsman 500 will outpull the rincon 650/680. The hp is relatively close on the sp500 and rincon, however, the gearing on the sp500 is alot lower, especially considering the rincon doesn't even have low range. Even the high range gearing is significantly lower on the sp500 than the rincon. Then when you throw in the fact the rincon is only 3wd and the sp500 is true 4wd it just makes it a better pulling and stronger bike. Also, yes the extra 100 plus pounds helps in pulling too. The rincon will win a drag race, but not by a drastic margin, considering both the bikes are stock or at least equal in reguards to tires, etc. The sp700 is a better match for the rincon in cc's. So it's more of an equal match when drag racing in which the sp700 will win.

I can tell you about both. I have a sp600 and a rincon650. The 500 WILL NOT outrun a 650 in any way, shape or form. It will outhandle the sportsman all day long. But on the other hand the sp will pull a rinny around and its a workhorse. The Rincon is more sport unlike the sp. My stock rinny is only about 3-4 quads behind a sp700. My modded 650 blows by the 700. You cant beat the comfort or 4wd of the sp but the front diff is its weak point. You cant beat the handling or quality of the rincon. Although only 3wd it does very well in the mud. Just a tap of teh front brake will lock front and spin all 4. You can get a true locker for the rinny for about 300 whick is ALOT cheaper than replacing the front diff of the sp once it breaks.
