Default Snow plow decision

I have never used chains. I get enough traction to tear up the plow without chains so if I used chains I would just tear up the plow quicker.

I differ from Reb2 in that I suggest a heavy plow, a heavier plow will cut thru the icy sidewalks better than a light weight one and the corners hold up very well when you come to a sudden stop (bout flipped myselft over the bars on the warn plow and it didn't bend)

also, take your cable off the winch and use a tow strap. I got a 2 inch wide heavy duty tow strap from wal-mart and it works great, cut it in half (6 foot or so). The winch cable will snap from all the up and down you'll be doing. I duct tape the winch strap on to get it started then just wind it in about 5-6 rotations and it doesn't slip. good for a full winter if the drum is aligned with the winch so it doesnt work on the edge of the strap to much

Actually Dirtydude, we probably think much alike. I consider the Warn to be a reasonable mid weight plow along with the CC plow. The heavy weight plows are the Moose and American Mfg. The extra weight they have helps cut better but also becomes dead weight when the plow is on the ground. That is why I developed my down pressure system. I could have the advantage of the extra weight without the disadvantage of the extra weight.

The strap is a good idea. I use synethic rope on mine to save the steel cable. The way I string the rope though I end up with four lines coming off the drum to the plow. I have used this rope setup for the last two winters with no problems.

So it has taken me a long time to get back on here, I went with the warn plow we have only got one good dump of snow but I made the most of it and payed off the plow in the first day out. I held up great the only problem I had was where the cable attaches to the plow they give you little dinky j hook thing and I bent two of them so I had to make somethin else up. I am and really happy with it went with 54 inch and its great. What kind of synthetic rope should I use??? Also has anyone used those side deflector things so the snow cant come out the top off the plow when its angled and plowing????
