Default Plow install

Just purchased a 2003 Yam Big Bear and want to install a plow. Has anyone done this before and is it easy? The reason i ask is the dealer wants $550 for a plow including install. I can get a plow for under $200. $300 for install?

i noticed that the kodiak i have has holes in which the plow arms attach too. i don't have these holes on the BB. Not sure how the plow arms get attached. I also have a winch and not sure how that all hooks up.

Can anyone help determine if i should be doing this or just let the dealer?

Let the dealer install it and teach you how to use it. $550 for a plow installed isn't a bad price. It sounds like your Kodiak has a mount on it so if you want to swap the snowplow between machines you will need to find out what brand plow the mount is for and get the same plow and mount for your Big Bear. I assume the $200 is for a new plow so you won't be getting much for that price.

Most of the plows seem to attach with a simple mounting plate and then are quick-disconnect. I built my plow frame from scratch and figured out how to attach it because I didn't feel like getting raped $500 for some flimsy pieces of steel. I probably over-built mine, but at least I know the blade will snap in half before the plow frame and mount ever even move. I think that if you can operate a ratchet, and buy all the parts that you'll need, you can definitely install it yourself.

Yeah, installing the plow isn't hard with the proper mount for the bike. $550 sounds good for a price because in my part of the world (Northern Ontario) the plow usually costs $300, the push bar or "A" arm is approx. $200 and the mount that the plow clips into on the bike is about $80. Plus... here we pay 14% tax on top of that so $550 really does sound better than the $661 the same mid grade plow would cost here.

I bought a Polaris 800 X2 and a V blade and mount from my dealer and installed the Atv mount rather easily. The directions for assembling the mount for the blade suck big time. They go so far and stop. There are springs and eyebolts left over. I see where they go, but when I try to put the mount on the blade, I can't make it fit right, it seems the pull bar is in the way. There are no directions for this or pictures that show them assembled. DO NOT BUY POLARIS! I emailed the company and they say contact the dealer(90 miles away), the dealer, over the phone, says they never installed a Vee blade with a Glacier II mount system. Do anyone have one they mounted with a pic?
