96 Polaris Scrambler
#1
I just bought my son a 96 Polaris Scrambler with a newly rebuilt motor. Still running 50:1 fuel for the breakin. Is their any known defects with the scrambler that a guy should know to keep an eye on? I do most of my own work on all my atv's and pretty mechanicaly inclined.

Roughneck1,
I previously owned two Scramblers a 95 400 and a 98 500H.O.
Obviously you have the 400 2 stroke. On my 400 the motor ran fantastic especially with a HPD pipe on it. I always had problems with the front eccentric striping out. This is where the front small sprocket is located along with the chain adjuster. Make sure you grease the heck out of it. I'm assuming it is the chain drive on the front. I think the first year for shaft front drive was 98 (that's way I traded my 400 for the 500 back then.) Other than that I had no issues with the Scramblers they still are one of the best sport 4X4's out there.

ive never owned one, but ive heard guy's not recommend the oil injection because of it failing and starving your engine the oil it needs. In other words its safer to premix your gas and oil to ensure that your engine is getting the amount of oil needed to operate. But like i said ive never owned one and thats all ive heard about them besides its a 2 stroke damn near invincible.

I think only a fraction of a percent have the oil injection fail. Most of them work just fine. They're great machines but I don't like the old chain-drive front-ends. I would get a later model with shaft drive. Even better IMO is the newer ones with the concentric drive rear end so your chain tension stays the same no matter what the swingarm is doing.
