might be a little high for an 04 but it looks real clean, my 08 brute is only 8 months old and I already have half of those miles racked up.

But like you said looks can be deceiving, I would go check it out and look it over real good yourself.

1200 miles is nothing... I have about 1100 on my 07 and I ride with guys who have 5000 on their 07 Grizzly 700's. Don't worry about the hours so much... because on Yamaha's the hour meter runs as long as the key is on... so in my case my hour meter reads like 210... but.. I keep the key on / engine off during breaks to keep my GPS powered... so the hour meter runs.

$4500 is a bit much for a 4-5 year old machine... I'd offer him $3500 and see where you can end up..

 

NADA says Low Retail - $2,990 and Average Retail - $3,935. $4500 is about $600 more than any sane person would pay for it, unless you think the tires and accessories are worth it. I don't have any idea what used stuff like that is worth.

Thanks guys, my main concern is the CVT and clutch assembly. Ive never owned an automatic before so im afraid i wouldnt know what to look for as far as belt wear and and overall condition of the machine. Anything in particular to look for when buying a used auto bike? Once again thanks and any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks. I love the classics too. And I like ATVs with big fat tires and everything. The song popped into my mind while looking at my quad with a butt-load of goodies on it several years ago. It was like the song except it was an Off-Highway Star. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

There are a couple possible problems with a belt drive. If the belt has a spot burned into then it will slip and jerk instead of engaging smoothly. Something like that although Ive never had it happen. The solution is to slap on another belt and you're good for several more years. I'm not sure what else to look for.

If the belt is burned <u>really bad</u> it will break. I did that trying to force the ATV between two trees that were too close. Instead of something blowing up like a grenade, the belt burned BAD and a cloud of smoke poured out. About 100 miles and 2 rides later the belt broke and I changed it on the side of the trail. A 30 minute job and a $42.95 belt. That's all. I carried the spare belt and tools because I knew the belt was weak after the smoke screen I made. I don't even carry a spare anymore.

 

Its all about milage on ATVs ,not year. I would rather have a 02 with 1200 miles than a 07 with 2500 miles.

 

If it makes you feel any better ..My 2006 Sp 450 has over 2400 miles..........
But as TLC said above.......the shape it is in means all the differance....

But....TLC.......In your post you said you would rather have a 02 with 1200 miles than a 07 with 2500 miles...
What if the 02 was all beat up....Plastic broken,tires worn and all plugged..etc.....and the 07 looked new.......
My 2006 with 2400 miles still looks fairly new.....How they are taken care of means alot.......

Most people buy these quads and only know they will have them for a year or two..So what do they have to loose......In my case......I want to put as many miles on them for many many years to come.......
I will give it the test of time for sure.......Caper........
