i bought a viper winch 2 years ago, it still works great. most of the cheeper winches; gorilla viper, venom, are older models of warn winches. some companies take these older designs and waterproof them. iv had better luck with my $150 ebay viper winch than other people with warns.
I would deffinatly spend my money money on another ebay winch over the wat $400 warns.

My 2500lb Gorilla was $99 with mounting plate and it saved a bunch of us this weekend. I am very pleased with it... Of course if my bike would have come with a Warn I would be pleased with it also!

Instead of trying to explain it read this from the Wikipedia sight!

Mechanical is just like it says mechanical (drum brake)</end quote></div>
Thanks....I read it. I wonder which is better? Seems like the dynamic brake would work the motor harder.

The easiest analogy of dynamic braking I can think of. Turn your ceiling fan on full blast, now flip the directional switch to make it spin the opposite direction. That's dynamic braking. Works great as long as your battery and electrical system stay in perfect working order, if your winch drags down your battery forget it, you're done. Dynamic braking also generates a lot of heat which is the enemy of electricity.

And when you turn the power off the brake doesn't hold like a mechanical one does. I hear mostly bad things about every winch except Warn and Ramsey.

Well guys I bought a Warn XT25 from MotoSports. First what a great company. They offer a 110% price match and I found the XT25 at Gander Mountain for $299.99 and they matched and gave an extra 10% off and gave me an addtional $40 off for a Holiday Gift. Wound up costing around $257 shipped to the house. Very excited!!! 58n65

I just got the same Warn winch (2500 XT) for the Grizz but I bought mine throught Rocky Mountain ATV as I do with most of my parts/riding gear. They as well are a good company to deal with. Here is a link to some discount coupon codes through them as well!
