Today I used my snowplow for the first time. It was kinda fun but it was also kinda tricky. I found that on some of the sidewalks in my neighborhood, my blade was too wide and would dig into the lawns. ( Raised the blade and passed these by ) After a few passes in my driveway I figured out that the easiest place to push the snow was into the road as the city trucks hadn't been by yet. I have a winch that I used to lift the blade and after a little practice I got pretty good at raising and lowering the blade over the high and low spots in the sidewalks. Someplaces the blade wouldn't scrape up all of the snow, are there any tricks to make the blade a little heavier ? How about changing the angle ? My Wife thinks I'm crazy because I've been waiting for a snow storm. She says I'm like a kid with a new toy. Thanks for any info.

Don't worry, you're in the same boat. We just had an ok storm here, first one, and I'm dying to plow. I just bought a '00 Grizzly and opted to get the plow instaed of the winch. Bad thing is they didn't have any plows in stock and god knows how long it's gonna be. I'm hoping to get that bad boy sometime next week at the latest. I've always wanted a full size plow, but ain't got the money for that, just have to settle on a small one for the atv. I think if you angle the blade you might be able to fit on the sidewalks. I think I read somewhere that a full size 60" blade will only be about 48" wide when it angled all the way. As for putting more weight up front, couldn't help ya there. maybe drape some sand bags over the plow?? Look stupid but might work. Good luck and keep your fingers crossed for more snow.

Hey, anyone have a V-plow? I would just like to know how they are. We have a straight plow on our '97 Sportsman 500. I would just like to know if the V-plows are worth the extra money. Anyone got a Polaris brand plow? That's what I got. It's the '97 design, so it's not the new ones. I know the new Polaris plows have a different design and it looks like they would lift higher than the old ones. I would also like to know if the V-plow would bolt onto the straight plow's frame. Anyone know?

Do any of you with plows have any pictures with your plow hooked up?? Interested in seeing the different set ups. Also, how hard is it to take off and attach the plow?? I'm still waiting for mine for my '00 Grizzly and I'm concerned that it is gonna be a pain in the butt to remove. I usually take my 4-wheeler out on days off to play around in the mud and stuff. But when the white stuff comes down I want to be able to throw the plow on w/o a ton of trouble. Also, do you all recommend getting the plow antennas for the edges (things that help you determine where the edge of your blade is) and the plow feet thingys (keep plow elevaed slightly to keep blade from scraping on bottom). I know these are pretty common items on real plows, just curious if they are a good investment for an atv plow. Any other goodies you all would recommend for a first time plower??

I have a 48" straight plow on my King Quad. It is from cycle country. I can have it on or off in about 10 minutes pulling 3 pins (well 2 pins and a hook for the lifting chain)

I enjoy mine but have looked at moose and they seem a little heavier which could be an advantage (of course then a winch would be nice, I use a manual lift)

I have drilled an extra hole in my lift plate which allows me to have the blade a couple of inches off the ground and I don't have to hold it up. This helps when I do my neighbors drive which has a lot of small loose stones.

I have thought about the 60" blade but then you have to ensure that you have a way to haul it. And it is a little big for sidewalks.

As for as the shoes go, I just let the blade run on the ground. They can be helpful in certain situations but the stock ones are garbage. I have to order the heavy duty ones and try them out.

Yes it is a toy but I love it. It gives me an excuse to ride in the winter.

I have used it to push dirt which it will but the spring release can cause problems. I am thinking of rigging up a way to lock the blade when I need to push dirt. Should be fun to do.

I've got a slick plow on my Polaris 400 4x4. It is the OEM plow from the Polaris dealer but it works slick. Pop out three pins and it's off. The 2-stroke 400 does a pretty good job, except when making long runs. On long pushes, lots snow accumulates and the back-end sometimes slides out. That isn't bad, because it means more snow has to be plowed! I kind of wish I had the quad down at home so I could plow my neighborhood.
