Can I re-fill my battery with acid?
I picked up another quad yesterday, a 86 bayou 300. The thing would not start, and the battery was dead. But, the guy only wanted 400 and it had brand new itp mudlite tires on it, which i wanted to try to use on my ltz400 (stupid me but theres gotta be a way), so I offered him 300$ and he let me take it, came with a plow too!
Last night I took apart the carb and cleaned it, empty the gas put new gas in, put my tractor battery in and it starts right up and runs, no stalls.
Anyways, there is a nappa battery in it that is dead charging it does nothing. He gave me a bottle of battery acid. How do I do this? I took the capps of the top of the batt and can't see any liquid in the cells, but is it there? Do I have to remove the old acid first? or is it gone do you think? How would I remove it?

I agree with SMK, but you know, you have the battery and you have the extra acid. It's not going to hurt anything to top off a dry battery with new acid. Top it off and put it on a trickle charge and see what you get. Most likely you'll find that it will take a charge and will be able to start the quad, but will loose it's charge after a few days.

I know you got a battery already but for giggles in case anyone else finds this.
You can add acid or distilled water.....either way. Usually your best bet is to fill the battery to a point where its just over the plates a bit.
Trickle charge......and I would probably do the initial charge with the caps off....in case any pressure builds.
Ive got a battery in one of my street bikes thats dated 1998.....I top it off and recharge it about once a year.....still turning over my 1980 KZ1000 just fine.
