Can-Am Renegade 500, 800, and 1000 are all tops in their cc classes.

Polaris Scrambler 850 and 1000 are up there too.

I, personally, really like the Renegade 500. More than enough power and light handling. I also like the 800 and 1000 but they require a little more care to ride. Tap that throttle and the front end comes right up. Can be tricky accelerating out of corners.

The Polaris is going to give you a slightly more comfortable ride and great power too.

Hi
Although the renegades are cool I don't have the cash for them. My budget is 3000.
Any other thoughts? Please remember they have to be a 500cc

Used, you're probably talking about a Polaris Scrambler 500. These were solid axle machines with a rough ride but if your body can take it, decent enough. For $3000 you'd be looking at a pretty used Renegade 500 and even though it has IRS, the front differential locks slower on the older Renegades. You might be able to find an Outlander at that price. It's pretty much a Renegade with racks and extra plastic.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about: It's in CT. I didn't see that you said where you're from. 2010 Can-Am Renegade 500

There really no such thing as a sporty 4x4. They are just the Outlander and XP with sporty plastics and the racks removed and smaller tires.
Same frame, motor , tranny and suspension but the sport gets higher end shocks.

See for yourself. 2012 Can-Am RenegadeŽ 800R EFI ATVs

AND

http://www.atvreviewnetwork.com/enth...2=315227&go=Go Heck the XP get nicer Alloy wheels vs the Scambler's steel wheels by the looks of it.

For $3000 you want used and a 500cc with Diff lock and IRS will be a hard find in good shape for that price. My 350 with IRS and diff and cost that much.

You could look for any irs, difflock Utility and take the racks off for your sporty look.

I,d look into a 660 Grizzly that will get you in the 60mph range with IRS and diff lock.

The only true sport 4x4 ever made in my opinion was the old style yamaha wolverine 350s. They had 5 speed auto clutch transmissions, racks and weighed under 600lbs. No IRS though

Thanks for all the replies, I don't think the can ams will work for my price range. As for the scrambler I really don't want a rough ride. How is the wolverine? Is it diff lock? I'm talking about the 450

I believe the Wolverine 450 had a solid rear axle with a differential rather than a chain drive. Not sure about the locker. I believe it also had low and high range when they made the 450.
