Default 1998 500 scrambler need help bad

My scrambler is getting gas in the oil and it is overflowing out of the carb and runs good until full throttle for about 10 seconds then it will bog down until it quits

Sounds like the needle and seat are worn/float level off allowing fuel to dump into the cylinder and contaminate the oil. First off change the oil and filter and install a good carb kit. Shindy is Japanese and equivalent to oem Mikuni carb parts. New Shindy Carburetor Carb Kit Polaris 500 Scrambler 1998 2002 Sportsman 01 02 | eBay Float level setting is critical on this model to keep it from dripping also. Here's a good article on the BST40 carb that's similar to yours but used on a Ktm and shows how to adjust the float level among other things.http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=347184

Thanks! I'm going to take it apart and try cleaning it first to see if that helps. I'll let you know how it goes!

Guess I was a mechanic for too many years.. Can't understand why people take a carb apart to only clean it especially if the carb internals are original.. On a 17 year old machine it would get a Shindy kit so I wouldn't have to possibly go back into the carb again and again like many have done. Once was enough to tear a carb apart for me.. I'm through, just had to rant a little..
