If you were to wire the winch direct " tree farmer " what kind of switch would you recommend than can handle the amp draw? I have never seen one. Thats what a solenoid does. Now if it were a manual activated solenoid I could see that, but it would be rather bulky to put in an easily accessed place. It would be a good upgrade, but I dont think a such a switch exists short of something rather bulky.

ok everyone, here's the situation. Yesterday I e-mailed Warn asking about the possibility of a replacement for my dead solenoid. Today I received a reply that they would send me a new one, no questions asked, at no charge. Now that's customer service!!!!

I have heard of people abusing Warn products and the company still stands behind them. I don't know why for sure. They don't have to, but they do. I have been let down by many other companies, but not Warn. They are an American company that does take pride in their product and their reputation. Glad you gave them a chance.

If you wire the winch direct to the battery you don’t need a switch, other than the one that operates the winch. An automotive circuit breaker in the positive lead from the battery would be a good idea, but I don’t use one. All my winches have been wired direct to simplify and improve the reliability of the connections. Whether you agree with this practice or not, I’ve always done it that way and never had a problem. But I’m not suggesting anyone else wouldn’t.

Ok, I see what you are saying. I also used the standard winch switch, but replaced it with a solenid after having them overheat when used for a hard pull.

Warn is an excellent company for customer service. I've never dealt with atv winches, but the hubs for my pickup are warn. I called the cust svc line and told them I had one that was sticking and hard to turn, they said no problem and sent me 2 new ones! They're awesome.

Please delete my previous posts. I accidently quadruple posted.
