Heres another winch related post! My father-n-law just bought a 99 King Quad. He wants to put a winch on to operate the snow blade. My question, on a King Quad, at what location is the mount? Is it REAL low? I look at photos of the King (I used to own one for 3 years) and even remembering back, it seems it has to go low. So, what Im thinking is, is it going to be in the way of damage/hang ups come spring/summer/fall when the blade isnt there? On my 98 Suzuki Quadrunner 500, the mount/winch is up behind the bumper and protected. Anyone know?????? Thanks!

On our '99, the dealer installed the winch with a Suzuki mounting plate. The plate essentially replaces the grill in front of the radiator. While I haven't actually seen a plow on a KQ, I would think the stock mounting position might be too low to be useful. Also, the mounting plate provides no protection for the winch at all. When the plow is not on the bike, the winch (in my opinion) would be an easy target for trail debris. We have since moved our winch to the back of the bike. It works well for us, but it doesn't help your situation.

Good luck!

On a related topic, have any 2000 KQ owners used the newly designed front winch mount. It looks much like a basket hanging off the front of the bike. The winch sits inside, and looks well protected. I am wondering if this mount would be in the way. Could the mount keep the bike hung-up? Any new KQ owners care to share their opinion/experiences?
