Default future of quads

I am interested on peoples thoughts on the future of utility atvs. Any thoughts about power sources, such as electric or fuel cell operation, or other thoughts on aspects of the design, aestheticsor mechanics, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

There is certainly a trend toward making the utility machines more sporty, rather that just tractors.

well you are probably going to see the end of the production 2 stroke, or major changes to the fuel system in them. EFI is tops on the list for 4 stroke innovations. Direct injection, and simply extracting more power out of smaller engines will probably be the trend for the next 10-15 years. Fuel cell will be difficult to adapt, the technology isnt really there right now to provide the same power and performance for a cheap price or in a practical way. When we begin to see the fuel cell or alt. fuel systems working in automobiles, then the recreational world will be next. Take a good look at other fields, like dirt bikes and snomobiles. In some ways they have surpassed atvs, but in other ways they are back in the stone age. I guess when it comes right down to it, we will just have to wait and see, but it will be an exciting wait. The sport has never been stronger, whether you ride a sport quad, or do yard work with a utitlity, people are enjoying it and it is growing. As long as the market for the quad stays, we will have new and innovative machines.

In the future everyone will own quads but there will be no where to ride. Right now I'd be happy if they put EFI on the atv's.

Maybe someday there will be more quads with EFI. I guess Cannondale just slipped my mind. Probably because Cannondale is down for the count. How about a 2-stroke with EFI and environmentally friendly?

Thanks for the rersponses guys
Other areas I have been thinking about are;
Do you think engine size will increase much more, or will we just try to extract more power from current capacities?
Do we need much more power?
Do you think the overall size will change? bigger? smaller? longer? wider?
Any thoughts on roll over protection or prevention?
Will the aesthetic change much? become more rounded? more square-edged?
Thanks again guys, keep the responses coming.

1. Never say never 2. Yes 3. Someday they'll be as big as a Suzuki Samurai but much faster 4. Wider stance w/roll cages 5. First round, then square, then really round, then square-ish and then round.
Suzuki Samurai vs. Honda CR-V which would win?
