1987 Suzuki LT 50 restored
Hey guys,
I recently restored my 87 Suzuki LT 50, it was sitting in my grandmother's garage for the last 10 years missing alot of parts and not in running order
I completely gutted the whole thing, sand blasted every metal part and repainted/restored almost every nut and bolt on the bike.
Attached is a picture of the almost final product. I just need to repaint the rims and install 4 new tires.
Now i'm having a problem with the bike running extremely rich. I have dissconnected the oil injection system and was running a mixture of 32:1. The bike is still running extremely rich, so i thinned out the mixture even more.. still rich. Could this be an issue of the piston rings worn out?
I'm running out of ideas, i really don't want to rebuild the whole motor, but it looks like that's where i'm heading.
Attached is a picture of the progress, what do you guys think?

Good looking little 50 I bought one of the first ones in 1984 when my son was about 5 years old.. Fun little quads. 32-1 is way too much oil for this small low compression engine. Could be part of the problem? You might try 40 or even 50-1 and see how it does. Plus a compression check would tell you a lot as to the condition of the top end.As far as a top end only on a 26 year old machine? It might last, but if you've gone to all this trouble and you plan on keeping it,I'd rebuild the bottom end also and be done with it and not have to worry.

If the outside of the machine was well worn.. Id bet the inside of the engine is too. At the very least you need new rings and new crank seals. You may be pulling oil from the tranny into the crank case.. A 50 cc 2 stroke is about as simple as it gets when it comes to a rebuild.. Much simpler than even a lawn mower engine.
Is the pump still on the engine? is there still oil in the lines? Then yes the injection is still working. You need to remove the pump and plug the holes where the injector line(s) go into the engine.
