From Wilkes-Barre Pa to Philiadelphia-NY on the x-rail beds
#1
Having read Greg Halls article on the home page of the connection, and being an avid rider of x-rail beds. I decided to wipe out my trusty Rail atlasand track that trail down.
It turns out that trail is the old PC (ROW) X-Penn Central/Rome Watertown & Ogdensburg Railroad. But has a 40 mile (active rail) dead spot between Philadelphia NY to Richland PA.
And it is not that far south from the, NYC (ROW), which goes south and picks up the O+W (X-Ontario and Western). Which in turn continues south and picks up the D+H (The X- Delaware and Hudson Railroad), which in turn can take you south to Wilkes-Barre Pa. With only one dead spot at Carbondale. Where you ride the left ridge looking south into Wilkes-Barre Pa. Total miles 180 to 220
Bear in mind this is a long trip, with up to ten gas stops and great delis along the way.
Ok- the directions,,,,,
From Wilkes-Barre Pa, Looking North, Ride the left ridge Past Scranton then drop in at Simpson on to the D+H then head north for about 35 miles and stay right and take the low road under the STARRUCCA VIADUCT (awesome sight). Then on into NY, There are a couple small dead spots where you have to ride the shoulder of the road for about a mile or two in places.
Then from Windsor to Center Village Around a new highway (under it) To New Berlin Jct. Where you now pick up the O+W.
On the O+W in New Berlin Jct, (stay left) Guilford to Norwitch to Galena to Earlville (stay right) then Randall Ville (stay left) through Pratts Hollow, Munnsville to Fish creek (stay right). Where you join the NYC (RWO) at Camden. Then north to West dale, Williamstown, Altmar to the active rail at Richland.
Now here's the dead spot, From Richland to Philadelphia NY.Some NYer has to know how to get around that? Locals check in?
Also working on a southern extension From Suscon (Right of Wilkes-Barre) south on the WBE into Pocono summit then into the Lehigh Valley almost into Allentown.
And planing trip From Forest City to the Hill top tavern in Boonville NY.%90 of trail gaps have been solved.Anybody want to go?

trx430ex,
You'd better have fun on it while you can. The evil Rails to Trails people and their crack smoking alies will probably turn it into a hiking and biking (non motorized use) trail. I sure hope they don't, we need all the riding areas we can get.
