Default Puget Sound/Seattle NW Area Riders Meet HERE!!!

Dang i can't believe how quiet it's been on here lately. Well maybe i can get it rolling with what i'm about to ask.

My nephew’s quad (yamaha badger) has been into the shop acouple of times and they checked the compression every time it's been in. They also had to check the valves and adjust them as they keep getting way out of whack. Now after we get it out of the shop it will run good for a day or so then go to crap. Basically what the problem is, is it's electric start and when it turns to crap it won't start. You can hold the start button down for 5 minutes and it won't start, just keep turning over. I'm assuming that is something to do with the compression. We have to pull start it, to get it going. After it's started and warmed up, we can shut if off but not for a long period. or we will have to pull start again. Now to my question, how do we fix the compression problem so the valves will stay adjusted and it will start easier? Every time we have had problems with this we have checked the plug and everything looks good. I want to take him riding but I don't want to keep pulling him.

Be specific as i don't know crap about motors.

79 meters first try. I'll send the link to my other puter and it will be much easier with my tablet Relative Positon is easy to control

If the only problem is won't start then it sounds more like and electrical problem than a compression problem. The electric start should crank it off easier than pull start if all the power isn't being used to crank the motor. Does this have a CDI ignition or an electronic magneto? The CDI will do this stort of thing. Instead of 12 volts to run the ignition, you have about 10 volts when cranking the starter. Lots of times a weak CDI will not function, so no start. However if the engine runs like crap once you get it going the maybe you have some valve train parts the were improperly hardened and that's about the only way the valves could get out of adjustment that fast. I would think if you can hand start it, then the motor must run alright once you get it started. Why because a compression problem would normally be harder to start by hand than with the electric starter.

That's how i understood the paper work when i got it back from the dealer. When the compression is set correctly then it will start right up. As for a CDI, i couldn't tell ya if it had one until i get home. I would think it does. As far as the valves, when the compression is low doesn't that effect the valves?

POORLY ADJUSTED VALVES CAN AFFECT COMPRESSION.

Ok, with that being said, if valves are worn is that why they would possibly got adjusted poorly? If so, How much are new valves for a badger?
