Default Puget Sound/Seattle NW Area Riders Meet HERE!!!

Since we have a few truck drivers on here, could you guys give me a heads up on south 5 to exit 71 from Tacoma? I am having withdrawals (sp). I need to get down there asap. Or at least before Saturday so I can be at Tahuya to lend a hand.

I like driving in the worlds biggest "Sqishy" A little sugar flavoring and it's snowcones for everyone!!

I think I watch too much T.V.

Ride Safe

CLE ELUM RANGER STATION - 803 WEST SECOND STREET - TOM CRAVEN CONFERENCE
ROOM - 7:00 PM

Thanks for the info DualSporter. This is a large and beautiful area over there. I have looked into riding this area. It would be a great place to ride and camp. I don't think right now there is much open to ATV's.

Is anybody interested in going to the meeting? I think it is on a Thursday night ??? I would think about going if anybody else is interested, and actually I may go anyway.

Now that I'm home from the my surgery and the "discount Doc", thought this Icon would be more fitting. Except my kids keep harrassing me for getting up to much and not using my crutches. Guess I better sit my bottom down.

Hey guys, the e-mails to our local DNR guys are becoming more important now than ever! I've received a lot of nasty e-mails from motorcyclists in the past few days. It's been everything from, "If they want to ride lawnmowers, do we have to plant grass?" to "They belong in the 4x4 trails." I hope you guys get on the stick and shower them with well thought-out e-mails! The future of the Tahuya depends on this!

Please guys, I'm begging!

Yodadda,

Sent you a PM, let me know what you think of that letter.

I don't like form letter. I like more personal letters that include the info needed to get a point across. Doesn't look so much like "bulk mailing". They actually have some thought behind them. ????????

Here is the letter I wrote. Just thought I'd post if for while. I'll delete it off of here later tonight

---------------------------------------------------
Hi Guys,

This is in regards to the trails in the Tahuya Trail system, and helping to make them more ATV friendly. I'll make this as short as I can and to the point. I'm sure you are getting other e-mails so I won't ramble on.

Early last year I bought my wife and I a couple ATV's. We have, and continue to, do a lot of Camping at Belfair State Park. We learned about the trail system you guys have over there, and have been riding there on a few occassions. We love the trails and the scenery.

I understand that ATV riding is fairly new, and that motorcycles have been around forever. We most certainly don't want to take anything away from the motorcycle folks. I have heard and personally seen "some" of the motorcycle folks bashing us ATVer's. We don't want anything more than co-exist with them and have trails that are also safe for us and our families to ride, and somewhat limit the damage to our ATV's. Just as the motorcycles and the 4WD vehicles need certain trail conditions to ride safely, so do the ATV's. The width of trails, tree roots, and stumps, all contribute the the safety (or lack of) for all riders. Some of the trails are barely passable for ATV's. I believe having a trail width of about 55 inches and removing some of the roots and stumps would provide a much safer and fun riding environment.
I believe these are Public Lands. As much as possible, I think the differnet user groups can, and should, be accommodated and be able to co-exist. Again, we don't want to take anything away from anybody else, just to have our piece of the pie. We (ATV's) don't expect to just be given our piece of pie either. I think, as you have seen from one of the ATV groups out there, we are willing to put in our share of work to help accomplish this. If we want to play and be accommodated, we should be willing to step up and put in the work. And we will.

Thanks a Bunch for listening,

Sean

Bing, the points in Quad4's letter were very good, and he kept it from being non-combative or accusatory. I know you know this, as you write great thread stuff.

Points to make are;

1. Most trails in the Tahuya are already wide enough. We would just like them to be stump and large root and rock free.
2. For all new bridges and re-routes on 2-track trails, we would like to see a 55 inch standard for trail width, with reasonable turning radius's on corners and around trees. This is also a safety issue as well. By not allowing margin for error, we are more prone to accidents. (especially mention stumps and roots hidden in the salal on the edges of trails and what they have done to you)
3. 48 iinches only allows us to have a single inch between the quad and trail edge. With the average quad measuring between 43-46inches, a 55 inch trail still allows us 4-5 inches between quad and trail edge. This is not a noticeable width to the naked eye, and makes a world of difference to the ATVer.
4. By making the trails safer and more fun for ATV's, this will stop a lot of the road riding we notice when in the Tahuya.
5. We are willing to/ already have help(ed) the local quad organization with trail maintenance in the Tahuya forest. We would just like to give our large and still growing user group to enjoy the forest like any other group, and we are willing to help out and work for it on our public lands.

Just remember to add the personal touch of "I" instead of the "we" when making your points. This will help it sound like more individuals instead of just our club are interested in the Tahuya. (which is actually the case anyway)

Thank You Guys!
John
