I probably will have the neighbor boy take her spot and Paul and his family are going with us also, plus a couple other people from work are heading over tomorrow. I plan on stopping at North Bend Sat. at 7:30 am and meeting with everyone else. So who should I be looking for?

Got a question for you computer literate types if you don't mind.
The Sony laptop has decided to run or a few minutes then it's like the power is shut off. It sounds like the disk drive is working very hard to run and makes a mild scratching/grinding noise. When I took the disk out of it the laptop will come on and stay on with no problem. Seems to me this indicates that an internal overload is being tripped by the disk drive drawing too much amperage.
Question: How big a job is it to change one of these drives out, where can I get the part and is it possible it just needs cleaned and lubricated?
Guess thats more than one question isn't it.

I assume its an older laptop
I'd abandon the drive in place and get a USB floppy drive ($20-30 e-bay or such)
since it's a Sony, you might find a refurb somewhere but I wouldn't spend a lot of money on one

Second, do you really need the floppy drive? You would do better to disable the floppy drive and invest in a USB thumb drive. You can pickup a 1GB thumb drive for under $30 to your door. Also referred to as a travel drive. I shop at Newegg mostly(they have a good review system as well so you have something to judge the products by), but sometimes find better deals at PCMall for bigger items including good refurb laptops.
If you are talking about the hard drive, and it's making ugly noises, it's dying and I would suggest you back it up asap. Hard drives are in expensive as well, and depending on your mechanical inclination, not very hard to replace. It's just time consuming to reload all your software.
DM, I still have your old brick hostage. I will get to it very soon.

First things first, if you are talking about the 3.5" floppy drive, did you try a new floppy? Sometimes the floppy goes bad.
