I agree for the most part. Even horses that would be used primarily on the low pasture, good dirt with no rock, would spend the winter on hard ground. Rocky pasture or rocked corrals for the most part. Only horses that spent any time on wet ground and mud were those with hoof problems that required it or in the rare case when a horse had a fever.
