Question,

Studs are exposed between my laundry and family room, what should I put up before sheetrocking to cut down on the noise from washer, dryer and furnace?
Sound will transfer more readily thru walls that have both surfaces attached to the same studs. Various sound deadening boards and insulations are available to lessen this problem. The best method I have seen for existing construction remodel such as you describe was to put sound board on one side of the studs, then put a 2X2 sill and top plate in front of the sound board and 2X2 studs located between the original studs in front of the sound board. Insulate the 2X4 stud cavity as normal and sheetrock both faces. Makes the wall kind of thick but it really quiets things down. Saw this in a Dr. office we did some work in. Another method is to remove the existing studs and use 2X2 studs on 12" centers but stagger them so each side of the wall is supported by half the studs. Does that make sense? Kind of hard to describe. first method is way far the best.

Well, I woke up to 6" of snow, still have about 5" of it, but melting fast (thank God). The best part was the power was out from 4AM to 9AM. Was thinking I would have to bring the generator into the living room and fire it up.

We only got about an inch and no power outage. Snow twice in one year and it's only december. What was that movie about the world freezing over? Hmmmmmmm

Be sure to point the exhaust right at the Christmas Tree, it makes the ornaments dance.

Merry Christmas Fred to you and yours.
