On the east side there are places where you could winter over and never see another person.
Where I haven't found anywhere like that since I left Colorado

I will never forget at the age of 14 I took off on my mountain bike and rode from Telluride to Durango by the needle if a compass. Didn't take any food water 1st aid or anything lived off the land ate what I found, caught or killed healed my wounds with what was available. Probably the most memorable 2 weeks of my life. I was so far back in the bush I saw things that no one had ever seen, after a while the animals are not scared because they have never seen another human. It is a very strange and wonderful experience when your that far away from civilization.
Not many you could ride a quad to any more I would imagine but if you want to go on foot or horseback there are lots of places. Goat Rocks Wilderness area comes to mind right off. For quads I suspect the area around Blue Slide or Darlin Mt would do. Place I was thinking of is some land we have that is landlocked inside the Yakima Reservation. No one goes in there during the winter and dang few any time of the year. Bout all we do is check to be sure no one is cutting any trees and look over the fences. When I was a kid we would ride all over that country and the reservation/BLM land pushing cows around. Had an uncle that herded sheep for the Holwagner Co. on the reservation. Went with him from Hwy 97 clear over to Mt Adams and thru the Big Muddy country and the headwaters of the Big Klickitat River. Easy place to get permanently lost. You can still get into the upper end of the Big Muddy by going thru the Goat Rocks wilderness area or thru Diamond Peak but the indian police may hassle you. They won't write a ticket as the boundary has never been settled in court.
