Default Puget Sound/Seattle/Northwest Area Riders Meet HERE!!!

As many of you know the Governors proposed budget specified funding for the assessment of Reiter and Ahtanum as potential officially recognized ORV areas. At the beginning of the legislative session these areas were named in both the Senate and House operating budgets. As the budget has been worked these areas did not make the cut in the Senate budget but they did make it in the House budget. Soon both the House and Senate budgets must merge and the differences reconciled. It is important that pressure be put on the Senate to reintroduce these areas to their budget or at least include them in the final budget. The Senate budget bill (SHB 1128) will be going to the floor for a vote this Saturday. It is important that you contact your Senator, the Chair and Vice Chair of the Senate Ways & Means Committee and tell them that you want these areas included in the operating budget.

I don't have a sample letter because legislators easily recognize a form letter. It?s best if you use your own words. Here are some ideas to write/talk about:

Talk about why ORV recreation is important to you.
Tell them how a new ORV area will benefit the community.
Talk about the recent controversy over the noise ordinance and how more areas should be opened up for ORV's rather than closed to help eliminate the controversy.

Margarita Prentice - Chair of the Senate Ways & Means Committee.

Craig Pridemore ? Vice Chair of the Senate Ways & Means Operating Budget Committee.

Please contact Helen Somers the Chair of the House Committee on Appropriations and thank her for keeping the funding for Reiter and Ahtanum in the House operating budget. You should also write both of your Representatives and ask them to keep these areas in the budget.

Don't know who your legislators are? Click the link below to find out. Once the page opens select the "Find Your District" tab. http://www.leg.wa.gov/legislature/

SHB 1128 is the bill that specifies the Senate version of the State operating budget.
